Hey Will!
As far as I know it cannot be air dried. The water needs to come out of the ink completely in order for it to bond to the shirt. Based on my understanding once it reaches a certain temp(over boiling 320F I want to say) the water comes out of the ink bonding it to the shirt. Also why you can just dry super fast and it takes a few minutes of that temperature for it to cure. Air dry would probably work up to a point. Relatively humidity would limit how much water comes out of the ink though. No guarantee on the bond to the shirt though.
Hope that helps!
